Properly a dumb Question, can I use Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 on my Nikon D800E?

Yes, it works but I found it rather unpleasant, dark and not right. I was thinking maybe I don something wrong, and was hoping for a positive answer.

If I recall correctly, this is a Dx lens?? If so, do you have to switch your D800E into Dx mode?

Hans. Shouldn't your camera change automatically into DX (crop) mode when you attach
a DX lens? I as I don't have Nikon. Have a look at this video here which talks about it.

Pay particular attention to the beginning, where he dispels some whacky ideas. The rest is
about the difference between DX and FX. But you manual should tell you how to switch modes
if it doesn't do so automatically.

Yes the D800 would automatically enter DX mode with a DX lens attached (unless it’s set not to —auto dx crop set to off in shooting menu)

The vignetting caused by a DX lens is pretty unmistakeable though, are we sure that’s HansPeter’s problem?

your question about the DX lens.

And now, please tell me if you have a Flicker account or an
account like that where you upload pictures. I asked this in
another thread of yours, but you can answer here if you like.

OK, so I will take that as meaning Photoshop.
So, Do you know how to re-sample a picture in Photoshop?

The picture you want to post here has to be NO BIGGER than 1200 pixels
on a side. Less might be useful too, but not too small, say no smaller than
800 pixels.

Next, you have to make sure it is no bigger than 400 KB when you save it.
You will probably need to use a Jpeg Quality level of LESS than 12, maybe 9.

If yes to all the above, we can proceed.

As you have not given me more to go on Hans... Here you go

Follow these instructions over the next heap of posts.

1. Open the photo in Lightroom that you want to post to Ausphotography. Once it is open and you have edited it as you wish.

2. RIGHT-CLICK on the photo, and a menu pops up. On that menu choose EXPORT

3. On the export screen, at the top you have to choose where you want to store the edited photo on your computer. In my example I have chosen to put the exported photo onto my desktop

4. Then scroll down the export screen until you find file settings. Choose filetype JPG and then in the limit filesize to, enter an amount. Ausphotography allows a maximum of 400, so choose something a little under that, say 375 for example. It is up to you, as long as it is under 400.

5. Then in the same section of the EXPORT screen under image sizing, look at the two figures for width and height. Ausphotography allows up to 1200 on the longest side. So adjust these so that the biggest of the two is 1200 (or less).

6. Then you are ready to export your photo. Click EXPORT at the bottom of the screen.

Your photo is now saved on your computer, in the right size to upload to Ausphotography. Your photo will be on your computer where you chose to save it in step (3) above.

Now that you have your photo saved at the right size on your computer, you can post it onto Ausphotography.

1. Click on FORUMS on the main menu, and scroll down to find the forum that suits the subject of your photo. for example, put landscapes in the lanscapes forum. Birds go in the bird forum etc.

2. Once you have found the right forum and clicked into it, choose the "post new thread" option, as you did to start this thread on your Nikon 18-200 lens.

3. You will then see this screen:

4. Complete your title and type whatever you want into the text box.

5. Notice the red arrow pointing to the paper-clip icon in the above screenshot? This is how you upload the photo on your computer, to Ausphotography. Click on the paperclip!

6. You will now get the upload screen:

7. Click Browse, this will let you browse your computer and select the photo you have saved.

8. Choose the photo on your computer and click "Open". Your file will now be uploaded to the Ausphotography site.

Now you have your photo uploaded to Ausphotography, you need to 'insert it' into your post.

1. While still on the upload screen .. look for the insert inline button:

Notice how the insert inline as a (1) after it. Notice the tickbox next to the other red arrow. You can select up to 5 photos to insert at once. In the example above, I have ticked one (1) box, and therefore the insert inline as a (1) after it.

2. When you are ready, click 'insert inline'

3. In your post box you will now see something like [ATTACH=CONFIG]134903[/ATTACH]. This is your photo attachment code.

4. When you are ready, click 'submit new thread' and your photo will be placed in your thread and visible to other members.
