Bugga, I live a little to far away.
It's possibly a fair enough promo, if it didn't say "become a pro."

Agree, im sure a lot would attend these workshops. Only silly bit is the use of the word "pro"

I'd go to one or three

I went to one in Brisbane a couple of months ago and quite enjoyed it. It was street photography/ portraiture/ architecture which apart from holiday snaps I have not done much of. I recommend them as an enjoyable time out with like minded people.

My only issue with the promo is the "become a pro" bit. It helps perpetuate the myth that with only a little bit of work you can make a living out of photography.

Who would be teaching a workshop for $39 in any event, certainly if a professional has to do that, the availability of work is slim.

I wouldn't put one leg out of bed for that even if you had 10 starters...

To some of us, the mere thought of spending a few hours with a group of fellow photographers for a few hours out and about is appealing enough to splash out $39.

If i were to pick up just ONE new idea, tip, trick etc then i think it'd be worth it.

But thats just the way i see it...

    Id be happy to attend.

Perhaps you misunderstood my post. I meant what trainer/teacher etc would be holding workshops for $39, and if I were the trainer, I would not see $39 as being worth it to get out of bed, even if there were 10 willing participants.

I think the "become a pro" bit has been put in by the voucher company not the photography company.

Well, this one obviously . It's a loss leader, only available for limited time apparently (normal price implied as $120). As it's aimed at beginners, most participants, with a bit of guidance, will likely get better shots than they've taken before, most of which will probably end up on FB - so maybe not a bad bit of marketing imo.

    Cheers.

It took Andrew ( I @ M ) 3 hours just to explain half of my D700. Plus another 16 hours learning half of what's needed for portrait photography. And still countless hours since reading the bleeding manual.
And to think I could of learnt it all in three hours for only $39.00. I'm flabbergasted.

I should do it. So I don't have to clean floors for a living.

You are right, and I never meant anything against the photography company. Their website only states "Our selection of workshops will have you shooting like a pro in no time!"

They certainly don't state that they will make you a pro. Still undermines the work that most professionals have put into becoming as proficient as they are that a few workshops will have you shooting like a pro. These kind of statements are obviously there to attract extra clients, I am sure they do not mean to demean professional photographers.

Yeah, but they didn't say which pro . I missed that, but did spot this under their wedding w/s...
This workshop is NOT designed to replace your professional wedding photographer. It is impossible to learn in a workshop what takes professional photographers a lifetime of experience to perfect.
Although they then go on to say this which sounds dangerous ...
...the professional photographer might be grateful for the assistance!

    Cheers.

I think the point has been missed completely with this thread. To me, the add was aimed at begginers to help them "shoot like a pro" yes i will agree though, not worded the best.

I quite often spend time and dollars probably much more than $38 and if I learn one thing that helps me with my shots or projects I'm happy. Yes the wording is pore or misleading. As for getting out of bed for $130 an hour you bet-ya
