Suggestions for Software for Pentax kr

Hi all.Being a beginner I still have equipment to get, including my editing software for post processing etc. I have a Pentax kr and was wondering if anyone could recommend a particular software pkg that is best for Pentax ? If there's such a thing. I was considering lightroom, but have heard about others......

    Thoughts? Many thanks

The software the comes with Pentax is ok as a start (download the latest patches from http://www.pentax.jp/english/support...d_digital.html )

Picasa is free (from Google) and is a good start.

Lightroom & Photoshop when you're ready for them.

    Software

I use Photoshop & Lightroom as well, but have also found Corel Photo Pro to be useful.

My wife has said that its easier to use than Photoshop and I tend to agree as its generally easier to navigate and most options are available in its drop down lists.

+1 on this. It has many of the features which you would normally find in a package like Photoshop, and was my favourite editing program in its Jasc Paintshop Pro incarnation (before Corel bought it) before I switched to Mac from Windows.

Photoshop Elements ought to be considered as well, its extremely good and has a good deal of whats in PS.

For general workflow, Lightroom is excellent. Version 4 is either just out or on the brink. Of course it comes at a premium. Picasa is OK as a manager (and its free!), but I wouldn't do any editing with it. The Gimp is another to be considered. Its got a linux background so is a bit unusual compared to the others but its extremely powerful, and it too is free. I'd say for starters... Picasa for managing and viewing, and TheGimp for editing.
