can I use an image for watermark

I would love to use the outline of one of my raptors in my watermark. I want to basically have a transparent outline effect. Can anyone point me to a tutorial or something? I usually can work it out from there.

Thanks for any help - I will check this thread later as I am now out the door birding - first bit of sunshine for a while.

Yeah, you can. Just use my watermark brush tutorial in the tutorials thread. Note that you will need to do a bit of work on the original photo to get it to the outline effect.

I tried this, but found that it did not work on some photos, so be prepared to not like the end result on some of your photos

Hi Shelley, may we see the photo? We'll be able to give better advice.

Thanks, this is a shot I am considering - please forgive the actual darkness, but I am only interested in the outline. Appreciate any help - thanks.

    Great shot!

What's your intention? Do you just want to remove the blue sky, so that the bird is by itself, ready to place on an image?

Or do you want a black-on-white silhouette of the bird?

Just select the bird itself - which I can do - make the bird one colour, then try to make it transparent - then would have it with my name on my watermark. Does that make sense?

(Just added it to a random photo of my son as an example)

Yes - can I get rid of the detail out of bird itself?, probably not hey. That looks good, I of course would adjust size accordingly. Appreciate your input - nice random shot of your son

Sorry, could you explain your question a bit further?

Sorry, just the outline of the bird with no visible detail of feathers etc., such as colour in the feathers- Richard Hall's watermark just has the outline of a wren.

Just talking with you I am thinking if I select the bird, then fill the bird with a solid colour and then fiddle with the opacity. I am using cs5.

Thanks so much for your help.

So, you DO want a silhouette then? Per my original question?

Yep, that's how I'd do it.

Don't waste your time painstakingly painting. Just add a Channel Mixer adjustment layer, click the "Monochrome" checkbox, and use 0% red, 0% green, 100% blue. Then add a Levels layer and use the values 230, 1.00, 240. Done!

Thank you, thank you so much, I have been wanting to do this for ages. Solved just in time for before I go to work - will work on it later. Have a nice day.
