Help needed with lens choice for 60d

HI,

I am wanting to get a better quality wide angle zoom lens then the 18 - 55 I got with the standard lens kit for my 60D.

For the sort of shots I am interested in taking (close ups of people holding fish) it was recommended that I look for something in the 17-35mm range.

As I don't have a full frame camera the canon 10-22mm seems to be the only compatible lens for the 60D but I don't want a lens that distorts the image too much.

I am wondering how the 17-40mm L series will go on the 60D? I know that it wont be as wide as on a full frame camera but how will it go? How will it compare to my efs 18-55mm?

I have no plans on getting a full frame camera in the near future.

Should I go the 17-40 or the 10-22??

Have a look at the EF-S 17-55mm f2.8. It's a great lens. I used it on a 400D and now use it on my 7D.

No problems with 18 - 55. I was thinking some quality glass might make a big difference?

It will make the least difference compared to skill and experience, technique and post processing

It's very easy to get carried away at first and buy new lenses with a sometime gilded expectation if suddenly better photos

I had the 17-40L lens on a 50D but didn't like the distortion at wide, esp for close people shots. Now got a 17-50 F2.8 Tamron and much happier.

I also have the same kit lens and purchased a hood for it upon the suggestion of a poster here. It really does produce some beautiful images: http://www.flickr.com/photos/4204929...in/photostream. I would keep playing with it a bit longer, this will also help you decide what length works for you.

Any wide angle lens in that range taking pictures of people up close will distort the person to some extent. The 10 - 22 will most definitely distort the person up close. Neither the 17 - 40 or the 10 - 22 are used for taking up close portrait shots.
