Tamron 70-300mm

Hello,

I am looking forward to buy Tamron 70-300mm lens for my Nikon D5100. I am really not sure about the quality and how it performs since I never bought non nikon lens before.

So has anyone tried the mentioned lens, can i get feedback regarding the quality overall?

I am just looking for zoom lens, not really the high range, but at least a good one.

Hey Green,
there are 2 distinctly different versions of the Tamron 70-300 on the market that will autofocus on your camera.

They are,

They have major pricing differences and marked image quality differences.

The one with vibration control offers quality at least on par, if not better in some aspects than the well regarded Nikon lens with pretty much the same specifications.

The one without vibration control doesn't really inspire me with positive thoughts as similar to many other lenses on the market it is made very much to a price and I feel that the money spent on it would be better saved to put towards a better quality offering to avoid medium to long term disappointment.

Which lens was it that you were considering?

I've got the lens with VC for a Canon mount and its a terrific lens. The vibration control is amazing, it just locks rock steady the image thru the viewfinder. IQ is great without any purple fringing on high contrast areas.

Hey I @ M,

I did not really know that there are two types. I have seen the VC type on Ebay but i did not know what it stands for! seems the same funcion as VR on Nikon lenses.

I just checked on Ebay, the price difference comparing VC to non VC is double. I'd love to get the one with vibration control.

I've got the non VC version for sony, in a cupboard, somewhere. Bought it cheap but it still wasn't worth it

i had the older non VC lens
Gave it away to my brother - I don't think he uses it either

i have the vc version and it does take a nice photo, the vc really kicks in you can see the image jump in the viewfinder
