I don't think they are using the salt in the drive but using it to create the structure from which the circuitry can be made from. I'm pretty sure salt isn't conductive so it can't actually be used as part of the circuitry they are talking of in the article.

Yes but not when it's just salt. Read the article sounds they are using salt as a form work not using salty water.
Melted salt conducts electricity too, but indeed, that is not what is being used in this technology. They just use a salt solution that allows better control of the lithography process.
