time for a new computer.. but what should i build?

ok so after the constant crashing of my computer ive decided to build a new one from scratch... the question is what shall i build?
i want something that is fast, can handle photo processing with ease as well as having internet running at the same time
at the moment i have an amd athlon 64 x2 dual core 4200+ 2.21ghz with 2gig of ram...

what is a better faster system with a budget of around $1000...
