Outpost - Art From The Streets, Cockatoo Island 4 Nov - 11 Dec 2011

Just read about this exhibition yesterday and though this would be good one to go shoot : http://outpost.collider.com.au/

I love street art and would be keen to go and check this out one weekend, preferably in the morning. I know some went to another art show on Cockatoo Island before so any hints/tips on what to take, dealing with crowds etc would be appreciated.

As this runs until 11 December we have some time to organise a meet, but feel free to post here if you're interested.

I think this is an excellent idea. I think the only weekend date in that range that definitely sucks for me at the moment is 5 Nov so pick a date and I should be in.

2010 Biennale was there and an AP meet was arranged for the last weekend and it was exteremely crowded (I didn't go but wandered around town with Darey instead). Those that went commendered a water taxi that worked out cheaper for the group than a ferry. There is a regular ferry service and I note it says FREE entry with ferry ticket. I am deeply attracted to anything with the word free associated with it.

These things are always less crowded earlier on as people tend to wait for a last minute crush. Agree with mornings, maybe an early morning Sunday before most people have got up for breakfast?
    Cheers

*thread bump* I'm going to check this out this Sunday (6th), catching the 0952 ferry to get on the island at 1013. Feel free to come along if you want.

I would love to Glenn, but you have picked about the only time I have a firm commitment (from 11 am-ish on Sunday).

@peter - keep in mind you can get there earlier than 10 AM which is the official opening time, a lot of the artwork is outdoors / on sides of buildings so you can get there even earlier to beat the crowds. Also be wary of the ferry times, none of them matched what I printed out from the Sydney ferries site. Hope you have good skies in the morning.

Was in Sydney for a day yesterday so caught the Ferry to see this. Got there at 9.45am and basically had the place to myself. Fantastic stuff, great photo opportunities. Next ferry in was 10.45 and it was packed with visitors so early is the go. The place is open to wander around early.
Also checked out Sculptures by the Sea at Bondi - again fantastic and well worth while. I was there 4.30 to 8pm and the place was very busy with people - also hot day didn't help.

The Outpost street art event at Cockatoo Island is excellent. I got to see around 3/4 the stuff in the bit over 3 hours I was there. I would have liked to have spent another couple of hours there. The rain and being mid-week made it pretty good with only limited numbers around. It would be chaos on a weekend but at least there extra food facilitys on the weekend just for Outpost.

Highly recommended - it goes until 11 December so you have no excuse if you miss it.
