Gee, there must be a veritable mountain of D300, D700 and D3 bodies (including S derivatives) that simply won't take a decent picture any more.

To be honest my D3 is nearing the end of it's rated shutter life, so yeah, a D4 might be handy

How do you know your shutter life? Is there like a counter or something?

The shutter count of all most Nikon DSLRs is recorded and viewable with a range of exif viewers.

I am bored... With the rumoured announcements. Although my camera will keep taking photos after the new dwhatever, i am specifically uninterested in the mirrorless idea. I want to hear about a new dslr and vicariously want it.

Incorrect, jpeg files do contain and will retain the shutter count.

If you like I can paste the other 700 odd from the archive disc that this one was taken from all shot in jpeg.

may or may not be important, but JPGS straight out of camera will ALWAYS contain the shutter count data field within the EXIF.
JPG images processed via Adobe software MAY be altered in a way that may lose this data. This may apply to some other software too, but none that I've tried.

I haven't used PS/CS in about 5 or 6 years, so I cant' say if current versions of CS do this, but in all of my LR endeavours, a lot of EXIF data is stripped ... not vital stuff, but stuff nonetheless.

Why's the count down still going? Do ppl even know if its from Nikon other than the colour scheme and "I am" advertising slogan?

Well, nikon announced the 1 series (j1 and v1), with a cx sensor, and a new mount and series of lenses. I haven't looked at the iam website, so have no idea if it matches. I'm still struggling to muster the interest to really look into the details.

Well, if nothing else put you off this: Prices the V1 is 849 with the 10-30, and the J1 649 with the same. So who is going to spend that sort of money I wonder?

I can hardly wait for the October announcement.
Will it be more CoolPix or some more 1 system accessories ?
