    Couple of things (Site related)

    Hi all.
I've been out of action for a while, so sorry if this has been mentioned.
a/ Where has the "thanks" button gone? Seems to be missing in action.

b/ Just a quick ask if it is possible.
I always try to vote on every competition, and was wondering if it is possible if that when one clicks the "Confirm" button there is a link to either the next lot of voting, or back to the "competitions" page. I find that as it is, I vote, then confirm, then I go back to the top of the page and re-click the "Competition" menu button just so I can vote on the next level.
I think that is a lot of mucking around, and would turn off some members from voting. Just a thought.

    Geoff.

The 'thanks' button has been replaced with a trial of LIKE instead. The mods and I have been discussing which is better, but happy to hear from members on this as well.

I like your idea of once confirmed, something other than having to go back to the menu, happens. We can look into that.

We can swap Like/Thanks at any time... Like is more consistent with modern sites, but Thanks maybe more personal. They tend to be interchangeable

For now there is a confirmation screen for voting, but I could add an auto redirect.

The only thing I don't like about the "Like" is that it is very facebookish, if you know what I mean. "Thanks" when you use it means that you are very appreciative of what someone has said about an image or that you are very greatful for the CC that someone has given. It might ok in f/stop or even in site matters. Because you generally like what someone says, or you like the changes you've made to the site in those two sections.
I know it may be a little old fashioned, but "thanks" for replying to this thread.

I have to agree with you Geoff. I my mind 'thank you' and 'likes' in not interchangeable. Maybe we could have both ?

Like and Thanks are two different things. I thinkk having both would be a good idea.
    Cheers

Olympus OM-D E-M5 with Metabones Speed Booster and Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 - almost as insanely wicked as sin itself... but then again, the Voigtlander 10.5mm f/0.95 is kinda fun.

    I Like Thanks.
Nearly started a poll on this when it changed, probably should have.

I would like to say 'thanks' but unfortunately can only say 'likes'.

Looks like we are seeing a pattern here, in what members want. Thanks for the feedback.

Not Likely to have both options at this stage, Thanks (Pick one)

The comp vote and comp entry re-direct to the main comp page after confirmation!

"Thanks" Kym and Rick. Voting is a lot easier now.
All we have to do now is because Intermediate has twice as many entries as beginner and advanced, is allow more Qualifying Votes. for example if advanced and beginners have a top 4, Intermediate should have a top 7.
May as well add it for discussion. And see what other members think.

I'm pretty sure that Kym already has that balance built in to the comp software. More entries = more to vote for in qualifying. There is a minimum level, of course. Kym will confirm my thinking on this one.

It's a formula, but basically as the number of entries goes up the max number of votes and the spread increases.

Entries Spread Min Votes Max Votes
    10 2 2 4
    20 2 2 4
    40 2 2 4
    50 2 3 5
    60 2 4 6
    70 3 4 7
    80 3 5 8
    90 3 6 9
    100 3 7 10
    110 3 8 11
    120 3 9 12

Thanks Kym, but.. I think that system works well when there is only the single POTW. But when POTW is divided into the three sections it becomes a little unfair.
Like last weeks POTW, Advanced had 20 entries, Begginners 22 and Intermediate 47. That gives Intermediate entries over 50% less chance of getting in the top 4. And I'm not quite smart enough to work out the percentage of less chance of winning Intermediate POTW.

The other option is the admin and mods sit down and review who is Advanced, Intermediate and Beginner and try to even the three sections out. Which I think would be extremely hard because the level of entries in each section is of such a high standard it ould be hard to choose. Some entries in beginners are at times well and truly far better standard than some entries in the advanced. section
