A quick question about my new 430EX II

Hi all,

I've just picked up a new 430EX II, and have taken a few test shots. The flash is firing OK, but after setting the mode to ETTL and adjusting the flash exposure compensation to -1/3, the LCD display continues to blink. Is this normal? Also, nothing happens when I press the Zoom button on the flash. I'm using a 50D in Av mode, with a 35 f/2 lens.

Any ideas?

I would guess that the head is tilted down just a tad. try lifting the the head a very small amount, without depressing the lock button.
It tilts down just a tad extra to allow for close in work

The 430 doesn't tilt down like the 580 does.
But maybe it's tilted up or twisted to the side.

Thanks for the responses guys. The problem was I hadn't retracked the wide angle diffuser screen all the way!. It's working fine now.

oh yeah i forgot it has one of those. that's happened to me on the 580 a few times when i pull out the diffuser to get to the white card (which the 430 doesn't have)
