    Safer railways for safer communities - Rail Safety Week

    http://www.nationalrailsafetyweek.com/site/homepage.php
    nrsw.jpg

    National Rail Safety Week (NRSW) is an Australasian Railway Association (ARA) and Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) initiative aimed at increasing community awareness about rail safety and improving behaviour at and around railways.
    The theme for 2011 is 'Safer railways for safer communities'

    The expected outcomes of the week are:

    • to raise awareness in metropolitan, regional and rural areas of safe behaviour around level crossings;
    • to emphasise how dangerous it is to take shortcuts over or walk along train lines (known as trespassing);
    • to improve safety within the rail industry by raising awareness amongst track workers, train and tram drivers and rail employees;
    • to generate awareness of the impact that level crossing accidents have on train and tram drivers who are the hidden victims and witness these avoidable incidents first-hand; and
    • to encourage widespread understanding of the actions being taken by the rail industry to increase safety around railways and tram networks in Australian and New Zealand communities.
    FYI We have removed images taken illegally on rail infrastructure in the past.
    Trains are nearly often near silent when approaching and Trains can kill!

    Be safe!

    NEW footage has been released showing the terrifying moment a boy ran in front of a speeding train at Mawson Lakes. The footage, released by the Transport Department , was taken from inside the driver's cabin of the train which narrowly missed the youth as he sprinted across tracks at the Mawson Lakes interchange on April 11 this year.
    The youth emerged from behind a stationary train into the path of a Gawler-bound express train travelling at 90km/h.
    He was clipped by the train, narrowly avoiding serious injury. Services were stopped for two hours while the incident was investigated.
    The footage was released as part of National Rail Safety week and includes a voiceover by a train driver describing the trauma of people running in front of trains

    A PERSON has been killed by a train in Sydney's inner west, causing major delays. Emergency services were called at 9.45pm (AEST) last night after a person was killed by a train between Lewisham and Summer Hill in Sydney, a NSW police spokeswoman told AAP.
    Police were unable to confirm whether the death was accidental.

    Commuters on the Inner West, North Shore, Northern, South and Western Lines have been told to expect major delays in both directions, a statement from CityRail says.
    Two deaths in rail safety week. Crazy.

    Another lucky escape yesterday in Sydney (I think?). A youth trying to cross in front of the train got caught between the train and platform. I saw a clip on last night's Sydney news. Luckily he fell into the void below the platform lip and survived. Scary to see a human caught between a concrete platform and a moving train!
