Star Trail - help needed

Hey guys
I have been wonting to experiment with night photography, most specifically star trails.

Some general tips, apertures, ISO that are good and shutter speed.

I have a tripod and a remote switch.

Also I am interested in what lends may be useful, wide or zoom or other?

any help would be much appreciated

Its a great guide written by Astroman for that sort of thing that probably hasn't received the recognition it deserves.
