    Birds in Flight at 1/10th sec

    produces a very strange effect! This was from Cheryl & my mini meetup last week. I couldn't work out what those funny sort of feathery things were and then the penny dropped! Could be very effective if you wanted something different.

    I could see this working for a shot of a bird diving into the ocean after fish it would give the sense of movement

    Nonsense. It' the middle of July. Those are snowflakes! If you look carefully, you can also see a few shiny whitish patches of ice forming on the lake.
