    Views on Sigma 50-500mm lens

Thanks everyone for the time you have taken to respond to my dilemma on a telephoto lens for Safari.

Your comments were very constructive. My thinking is that I will go for the cheaper version being the Sigma 150-500 mm. Need to check first whether the lens is fast enough for quick moving animals.

    regards

    Sue

Not animals but fast moving shot at 8fps, 500mm, 1/1250th - 1600th, F7.1, ISO400 hand held through the dust. These are straight from the camera just resized for the site, no other pp done.

Chaps being a South African we have a lot of areas that we can photograph wild animals. We often go to the Kruger and my favourite lens is the Canon 70-200 F4 L which is quiet sufficient as the animals are relatively close, even the 100mm macro is okay. However in Botswana the animals are further and a 400 - 600 is more handy. Then again animals taken closer are sharper and clearer than that taken afar so why go to Botswana. I hardly use my Canon 100-400 now although it is a great lens.

Also i have found that although Sigma is cheaper they are not as good as the Canon L lenses. I assume the same apllies to the Nikon lenses and therefore in my opinion I will buy nothing else than a Canon or Nikon lens

    Regards
