Hi all
I'm planning on a Sydney trip and because it will be short I'm asking you good folk as to the best spots to shoot the SHB from.Looking forward for your directions.

Easy one mate - do a harbour ferry run, either C-key to Manly or C-Key to the zoo ... either early morn or late arvo
From this vangate point & with the lighting, you'll very likely come home with some good ones

Mrs Macquarie's chair at the bottom of the Royal Botanic Gardens on Mrs Macquarie's rd will include the Opera House too, also Olympic dve Milson's Point from the North side and New South Head rd cnr of Bayview Hill rd at Rose Bay will give a fantastic view straight on to the bridge, city skyline and Pinchgut at night.

What times are you planning to be taking pictures? As phil mentioned the ferrys are a good idea but only if you have fairly good light and you do not want to do long exposures.

heres a couple of ideas for you:

$9 to get up the southern pylon on the bridge, very worthwhile imo




night time and sunset on the Kirribilli side (get off at Milsons point and walk)



plenty of city scape shots from here too, take a bottle of wine and a fold up chair and I reckon there are worse ways to spend a sunday evening.




On the southern side over at Mrs Macquaries Chair, popular, cliche location, its a nice walk from the opera house but watch the closing times of teh Botanical gardens which makes for a longer walk back.





And of course there is observatory hill, great location, lots of green grass and a good spot for sunrise at this time of year (with the bridge)



there are heaps of other positions as well, i think you need to have a bit of an idea of what you want to see and photograph then select the location for it!

Also checkout the photographer's ephemeris or similar to work where the sun is gonna be at the particular time your there..if you have iphone (which i dont) you can get a app for it...
