    Apology to the 'Thingy'

I feel that I must apologise to the Thingy that today sent me an email with a "45 Day Warning" - saying that:

    - You have not posted anything on http://AusPhotography.net.au for 45 days - we miss you!

    and:-

    - Please note your account will become inactive after 90 days of not interacting and then have reduced privileges.

    from:

    - Regards, Site Management - [This is an Automated message]

Perhaps the politely efficient Thingy hadn't noticed that I'm over 60 and on disability pension, and that in the last 6 weeks I've been in hospital 3 times with breathing difficulties (COPD), and otherwise have not been in the best of health, as I also have diabetes, which doesn't help with circulation and breathing matters.

However, I've now been put onto 24-hour injected insulin (Lantus) - along with a change in other medications - and the combination is having pretty good results. Signs are that I'll soon be out and about and much more mobile - and I'm already feeling a bit more energetic.

I had been trying to at least log-in here most days, even if not feeling like posting - assuming that as in most forums, the act of logging-in regularly keeps the account current... Apparently here, as noted in Thingy's email - it doesn't.

If I'd realised that, I'd have made some sort of Reply-etc, or dug-up an old photo to post, each week or so...

    Best Regards to 'Thingy',

    Dave.

You are very right, the 'thingy' doesn't know about members personal circumstances, and it doesn't really have a need or right to know them.

It just sends out nice messages to remind people that haven't been around for a while, that the site is still here. Whether people join in or not, is up to them. But people forget to come along to AP for a wide variety of reasons and the '45 day message' is just a polite reminder of that. It doesn't discriminate on age, sex, social status, health or religion!

I hope your health continues its steady progress and someday soon you are able to enjoy your photography again, and I am sure the 'thingy' wishes you all the very best as well

Rick - Thanks for the wishes - and I'm sure dear old 'Thingy' means well, too!

If you have a bit of a fright healthwise - particularly if you're over 60 - it does make you re-think the blessings you do have, and that can include a local photography forum and a bunch of very nice people there....

Recent events have meant the DSLR savings took a large dent - so just getting back to that at present. There again - that might give Pentax time to do a firmware fix on the K-R focusing problem! Meanwhile - the SX10 and HS10 haven't been wearing out - so I'll be out and about with them soon.

    Regards, Dave.

PH005 - Thanks, mate! Actually, things are looking rather better at present, as a complete revision of treatments by the specialists has made some big changes. Just up to doing some short walks to build the system up again, and starting to get out-and-about again in general.

    Bests, Dave.

My father's been in hospital for a few weeks now, and the specialists are still trying to figure it all out. He has no particular interest in photography, so you're way ahead of him in a couple of areas.
Stay positive and keep getting well.

    First ... get well.
Secondly, if you ever get made inactive (90 days), simply post a (re-)introduction and the 'Thingy' will reinstate your account to all its former glory within an hour of that post.
    Yes - its magic

Mark_L - My feelings are with your Dad - the specialists can certainly do some pretty remarkable things these days, and I'm hoping that all goes well for him. My very best wishes to him - and thank you for yours to me.

Kym - Thanks for the wishes and the advice. Good ol' Thingy isn't the only thing "magic" about this Forum...!

    Regards to you both, Dave.
