Tamron Macro question

Hi everyone, just thinking of getting either a tamron 60mm 2.0 or a 90mm 2.8, im a bit confused and i was wondering, the minimum focus distance of the 90mm is 29cm and the 60mm is 23cm,
but because the 90mm extends 50mm or so does that mean that there is only 10mm difference to the subject or is that 29cm measurement with it extended. I will be photographing insects, and was tempted by the 90 mm because of the greater MFD, but if its only 10mm then i think i would prefer the 60mm .

What a hard question to answer, but I will give it a try.
The tech specs for the 60 indicate - Minimum working distance 100mm (3.94") from front of lens

The tech specs for the 90 list a Minimum Focus Distance 290mm, now that is from the film plane, so take off the 97mm listed length of the lens plus the amount the front element extends during focus and you will have an answer.

What I can do is put a 90mm on a camera when I get to work in the morning and actually measure the Front element to subject distance when at minimum focus distance if you would like.

According 2 the specs, they both do 1:1 reproduction. Then would you only need to consider what subject distance you want to work with?

Ok I have done the test.
Tamron 90 Macro at min focus distance
O/A length 151mm from front of camera.
Min focus distance - from front of lens to front of subject - 98mm

thanks Mark. I was just going to do the test and you saved me. Well they are the same distance (approx) from the subject. I think I`d still prefer the 90 as it`s a great portrait length lens.
