    Cropping

I have just purchased a 17-35mm f2.8 lens to use on a Nikon D700. It will be mainly used for landscape but there are always times when you want to get in closer, and often you don't have the time or inclination to change lenses.
As the D700 is full format 12mP, how much can I crop to achieve satisfactory results with photos which will mainly be viewed on a computer, and how much if I want to print at up to 10x8?

    this chart might help.

they comment.. 'You can make nice 8" x 10" prints with a 6 or 8 megapixel camera' .. so i reckon with a 12mp camera; you could prob. crop to about 80% of original image & not suffer quality.. of course you can always push that a bit higher; but detail will begin to suffer the more u try to enlarge.
