box brownie pics

I finally updated my scanner software and can now start scanning film again.

Below are images from my Box Brownie 620. Taken on HP5 at 400.
Box brownie only has 125th at f11, so i used my old pentax as a light meter guide.
The images are untouched, so they have dust, finger marks etc all visible. This is the first film I have developed in many years....loved doing it

The negatives looked ok but perhaps a little thin... I used ilfospeed 3 at 6.5min.
?longer development or does this look more like exposure issues.
I think I will try FP4 the next time..
comments on flilm quality and processing only please.

From your description it's hard to work out if all images are from the same roll or not ... presume they do

images #1, #2 both seem to have quite low contrast and no firm blacks, so I wonder about agitation &/or under-dev't - either weak solution or time??
images #3, #4 certainly have a rich black, so maybe it's a camera-exposure issue ?? crummy weather maybe ??

whatever - keep it up mate ... love the smell of them there darkroom chemicals

They are from the same roll and it did confuse me a bit too. Thinking about it a bit longer, I would agree with you that it could be an exposure issue. Looking at the levels shows a skew to the right and introducing a steep curve (equiv to no. 5 paper curve) looks like over exposure on image 2
Looking again, the numbers on the edge of the film seen to have a reasonable black.... may half a min. longer development.

I'm confident of my chemical dilution and temperature etc.
I might get some FP4 and shoot on a bright sunny day... lots of contrast..
Yes its nice to do some real developing again! even after about 30yrs.

If the negatives are thin, I'd suspect that under-developing is the problem. With HP5, your exposures should have given you a denser negative. What developer were you using? I'd suggest ID11 as a good reliable one.
