    Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 versions

    How many Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 versions are there? I was out at a media event and saw a lot of what looked like this lens, with the big front part with no ribs. Tried to search online but could only find pics of the current version, not sure if there were other versions?
