Calling Nikkor users with long primes

Does anyone have the AF-S 500mm lens? Is so does it have VR II as per the Nikon site. Think the same applies to the 400mm lens also.

Just trying to get my head around the specs of these long lenses.

I've the 400 and it has version 1 of vr, same as the 500 I believe. I'm pretty sure neither that nor the 600 have add an update to vr since introduction

Thanks for the reply...that sums up what I was told today which at odds with other dealers and also what is on Nikon Aus website. Bizarre. Don't let Canon fans see this

My understanding is that the previous versions of the 400 & 500 had no VR and the current versions have VR II. I have no reason to believe that the specs on the website are incorrect. Also as far as I'm aware you can't tell from the lens itself whether it has VR I or VR II (but happy to be corrected).

Actually I might be wrong, I recall now that the 400 is now vrII recently.....sorry...its only quite recent though.

Thom hogan's lens db http://www.bythom.com/nikkordb.htm shows only one VR incarnation of the 400, 500 & 600mm primes(2007 release). The previous versions (2001 release) did not have VR. As nikon say it uses VRII, I think you will have believe Nikon. Also, what choice do you have?

When the VR system was introduced all those lenses underwent a redesign with additional elements and coatings.

I have 400 and it is definitely VRII so is your's Darren, the 400 never came out with VRI, it was essentially the AF-S versionII with no VR, then the current 400 with VRII. The lens has at the AF/MF switch, A-MA-M where VRI only have MA-M like the 300/2.8VRI & II

Thanks for those websites and comments.
Does get confusing given it's called VR but Nikon website says VRII, yet lens like 70-200 are named VRII.

Those and comments in this thread support the fact that the 400, 500, 600 all have VRII even though the models are called VR.
I like to do my homework and be sure what it is I am looking at in terms of models etc so thanks.
