Help with trip to Kakadu and Uluru

I have booked a trip to Kakadu and Uluru in July. We are flying to Darwin and hiring a 4WD camper. As I am limited by the Qantas cheap flight luggage requirements I want to know if I should take my heavy 120-400 Sigma lens and a tripod. I'm not as fit as I was years ago and can not lug a tripod too far from the car. I'm considering taking a monopod instead but worried about the sunset photos. I want to take as many different types of photos as I can, birds, waterfalls, sunset over Uluru etc.

Besides Uluru, Olgas and Kings Canyon are there any other 'must see' places near Alice Springs?

Any help with gear and places to visit or objects to photo (macro?) will be very welcome. I am using a Canon 50D with a Canon EF28-135 f3.5-5.6 IS USM, nifty fifty, Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di IIVC LD, Extension tube EF25.

Many interesting and beautiful areas to visit. Two you may care to consider are the Finke Gorge and West Macdonnells. Have a great time.
Constructive critique of my photos is welcome and appreciated.
