Unwanted edge bands in partial fill

Sometimes when I add a vignette with the following workflow:

elliptical marquee (with feather set to say 200 pixels)>select inverse> fill with black (at say 50% transparency)

I get "bands" along the RHS and bottom edge as on following eg.:

Can anyone advise why?

I tend to run a gaussion blur over my masks, fot vignettes I take to the max, hope this helps.

Thanks, that would be a work-around. But I think it may be associated with some setting, as it doesn't occur on my other PC.
