    Would you dare?

Was just down at DDP in the Valley (QLD) and saw these for $149.

The guy in the shop says they sell lots of them and never had a complaint. Any one with any experience with these? I said to the guy you would certainly be holding your breath the first time you took it under. I dont want to go diving with it but in the water for kite surfing or surfing shots would be nice. Thoughts?

If the rain and high tides keep coming, maybe you'll be able to get them to give you an in-store demo!!!

I've seen them, touched them in the store but haven't been game as yet. I was thinking they would be useful for standing on the waters edge but I haven't tried it. I think there is a reason why an underwater DSLR case costs thousands of dollars.

Wishfull thinking on my part. The old adage of if it sounds to good to be true then it probably is, fits here I think.

I would be putting nothing in it first time it got wet. Would I put my D3 or D700 in it if it passed the initial watertight test? Nope!

Just ask for the in store demo - seal it up with nothing inside, hold it under water in their kitchen sink or whatever, squeeze it and jiggle it and push it around a bit and tell the retailer if it doesn't show bubbles escaping you'll think about it. Or just stick a Nikon in it to test and that's nothing lost if it leaks!

I'm pretty sure Jackie (JM Tran) has used one of these quite a bit to good effect. He might be able to provide some feedback.

I've used a P&S version and it worked well, although I wasn't submerging the camera so much as protecting it from splashes.
