Intervalometer by a calculator (for time lapse and night shots)

I was googling and found this amazing bit of information!

You can program your TI-83 graphics calculator and plug it into your camera to use as an intervalometer.

    What this means....
Many people own a graphics calculator from high school, you can write programs in them to do many tasks.
They come with a link cable, a 2.5mm, the same one that goes into cameras such as my Canon 60D.
So with this program, i can plug the calculator into my camera and program it to take any given number of shots at given time intervals.

I tested this last night and today creating some cool time lapse videos. Cant wait for a lightning storm to set this up and shoot continuously.

    Thanks Daniel,
I think that post needs to be a "sticky"

You can also use a Nintendo DS to control your camera - see here for more info.

The original aim of the guys who did this was to be able to get more than 3 exposures for HDR with a Canon DSLR - and they do this by precisely controlling shutter duration from the Nintendo DS.

I'm getting a dedicated intervalometer for Christmas, and it's only $20 on ebay - so for me it's a lot easier to have a specifically designed gadget than to make do with something else. We used one at our club the other night, and it worked like a charm.
