It's good to play around with it, I find it helps to get a feel for what does what... (which then gets forgotten as soon as I go to actually use the camera )
Oh and remember those of us with crop-sensored cameras like the 20D, 350D, D70 etc, use the "true" focal length of the lens, not the "apparent".
