First attempt at off camera flash

Acquired my first light stands and off camera flash trigger today... I think I'm gonna have a heap of fun playing with light.

These are my first attempts, I haven't processed the pics fully yet - just picked my favourite two to load up.

Is this practice for the Canon comp? very nice, I like the second one, though maybe a darker background could have helped to make the smoke stand out more.
    Cheers,

    Scott

I reckon you could improve those quite a lot with levels/curves. IMO it would also look better if you cropped out the bit of table at the bottom and just had a semi-abstract with the smoke. Well done, been meaning to try some of these myself

    Thanks

I actually haven't done much to them, just brightened them to what they were on camera... I will run them through PS later today though. This was to show Ozzie Paul how our flash (Metz) works off camera more than anything, and that there wasn't banding at 1/200th with the rf602 triggers

Once I've processed them I'll stick them up again.

Not for Canon comp - not that good yet lolol, still got too much to learn!

    Thanks for that. Nice shots.
Even though the Metz flash isn't mentioned they seem to work fine.
I think the banding is just with Pentax cameras because there is no dedicated flash triggers to suit them. I will get the Canon version as they have the same PC sync cord plugs. (450,500,550D)

Thought I'd add an after processing shot. Pretty basic processing, need more hours in the day

That really makes the smoke stand out, looks pretty good.
