After seeing the price tag I dare not look.

I wonder if they will bring out a full frame f1.8 version of this, the 24, 50 and 80 (for those of us who can't afford the 1.4 but want the newer lens designs)

Chances will be pretty much less than zero on that.

This lens was predicted well over a year ago, or at about the time the Dx 35/1.8 came to light, and one well respected pro Nikon gear reviewer did comment that producing such a lens(as this 35/1.4) was going to entail a lot of engineering on Nikon's part and that it would be expensive. A slower f/1.8 version wouldn't actually drop the price by all that much compared to this thing. Prices WILL drop in the coming months years as the market becomes saturated.. just as the 14-24, 24-70...etc all dropped. a decent price point will be between $1500 and $2000.
Having said that and watching Nikon slowly update all of their lenses to the AF-S focusing type, there would be a very good chance that one day soon(once this lens has proven itself in the market place!!) that we could see an 35mm f/2 AF-S lens as the cheaper alternative to the f/1.4.
The 35mm f/1.4 lens is a specialised lens generally used for specific purposes, it was always going to be horrendously expensive to any amateur/enthusiast type, but the pro that makes money from capturing images will probably not take price into consideration at all!
The current(ie. not this new AF-S version) 35mm f/1.4 is also a horrendously overpriced lens considering what it really is!! In a years time this one will represent much better value for money compared to the old one.

I think that within two years or so, we'll see a 35/2(maybe 2.8??) AF-S with a small price premium over the current AF-D version.
