Which do you think is more useful? (this will be for the 7D and/or 5D MKII)
Will be more used mainly for long exposures, but as i plan on travelling, the wireless may come in handy for when taking the odd self portrait...

You could get the generic ones on Ebay for less than 20 bucks for one of each posted. I got one with the cord for $4 posted. Maybe worth a try.
I`d go for the TC80-N3,a bit more $$,but worth it IMO.

I have bought the hanhel one it acts as a wireless remote and timer and interval timer etc in any combination, around $100.00
Have not used it yet but it looks to be much more programable and versatile than the Canon one

If you can afford it, go the TC80-N3... not to say ALL the ones on Ebay are rubbish, but I bought one off there and had nothing but problems with it and the seller... I ended up getting one from Photographic Wholesalers here in Adelaide... A Micnova brand... works great. Although it was $160...

I've bought ebay clones of the RS-80N3 and a wireless remote. I'm happy with both.
The wireless remote is great but the RS-80N3 clone is more useful to controlling very long shutter times if you only want one of the two.
Compared to the price of either of the Canon verions, just buy both clones on ebay.
The wireless remote I bought is RF (radio frequency) not IR (infrared), so you don't need line of slight and have a large range.

I would recommend the TC80-N3 as well. Does everything. I got mine from from B&H, which worked out much cheaper than any price I could get here. They're selling for $US145 there now. Shipping adds quite a bit, but if you can buy a few things at a time and stay under $AU1000 all up, it works out pretty well usually.

Yes, It looks the same a this but with a different branding. It does have some problems it you hold the remote shutter down for continuous shooting, the main unit turns off after you release. As the remote has no off switch, so you'll drain the battery in you bag if you don't protect the shutter button. The main unit also working as a wired shutter release is as very useful. It does have very good range.

They do have a few slightly more exspensive units, but still cheap.
RC-6 won't work with either the 7D or the 5D MkII
So that should narrow down the choices for you

Can't speak for the 7D but the RC-6 clones from ebay work fine with the 5DII.
I've also got a clone of the RS-80N3. Works great and is a lot of fun for taking timelapse movies.
I'd definitely recommend getting both. You won't regret it.

Well according to the 7D manual RC-1 and RC-5
The Canon USA site does list the RC-6 as being compatible
