About every 2nd or 3rd sport photog will have a lens like this or a 500/4. It's just a fast telephoto lens used for sport.

    Mile,
yes, the 600mm will work with 'normal' Canon DSLR's. This is a photo of me with it's (slightly smaller) cousin the 500mm f4L IS mounted on a 50D. Both are beautiful bits of glass and capable of capturing extraordinary images. The 500 is even hand-holdable (for short periods) the 600 is 'pod only material. Canon is set to release new ii versions of both in the near future.

Unfortunately its the photographer who gets great shots, the lens just guides the light.
    Using a 7d or a s95

If you think that's massive, have you ever heard of the Canon 1200mm f5.6 USM? It is now discontinued, and was only ever available by special request. B&H sold one for $120,000 Some more info on wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EF_1200mm_lens

I have been looking at getting one of these. I just need a 100kg rated tripod and I may need to leave a few lenses out my bag to fit it in.

    http://blog.wolffmyren.com/2008/09/3...00mm-f14-lens/

If I can get a tower built in my back yard I may never have to leave the yard again to take photos.
