In the local camera store to handle the 7d and 5dII, tyre kicking and dreaming of about which one I want. (All the features of both in one body please Mr Canon)

Turns out there are no 5dIIs in stock to grope, so I ask when they get the next shipment, and he said he was at Canon last week, and that there will be no more of them, and the replacement will be announced in 3 weeks

I asked if he meant the 50D and no he said, the 5dII

Won't be called the 5dx either he said.

How often do Canon update their cameras?

As far as I can recall.. the 5DmkII is about as old as the Nikon D700, and that means about 2years old.. isn't that approximately the lifetime of a Canon body too?

The new 1Ds Mark IV is due out soon (apparently) ... could be confusing it with that It is full frame as well... and only 4x the price..

Nothing solid in the rumour mill currently about a 5D II replacement apart from recurring stories about the "mythical" 3D... 2 year replacement cycle? who knows...

Sounds about right to me. The 5d2 replacement is certainly due.

Photokina kicks off on Sept 21..... where they announced both the 50D and 5dII in the past........
