Looks a good package and especially if priced at a similar level of the D3000, it would be a killer.
The only disappointing bits are the low-res LCD and loss of IR remote control.
NikonUser, probably not.
The D300S was what, last year about this time...far more likely we see the D4 early next year go to a new sensor, and then maybe the D700X or whatever it will be....or possibly a D90 replacement. The D400 might be around after that...depends on what order they feel like..either way this says they are going to do all the bodies now...the question is what direction.

There isn't enough product differentiation between the D3100 and D5000 so I think the rumoured D7000 which will be a D90 replacement without the screw drive but with a high res LCD will be next. It will be priced between the D5000 and D90.
After that will come a model between the D90 and D300s. The D300s needs more mp in the marketer's eyes to compete with Canon.
Looks perfect for hiking and travel, especially with the kit lens.
I think I will be using my AF-S Nikkor 28-70 f/2.8 for video.
Why doesn't it have a stereo mic port?
Seems like an oversight to me or otherwise this might be a 5D2 killer for video.
Now, I have to consider external sound recording.
Of course the 5D2 really needs this too, and the difference in price would pay for a nice sound system.
But, I will have to keep my 5D2 kit until the D3100 proves superior.
I think Nikon might have that planned on the next model up....supposedly going to be released in mid September...
