The end of the 50 D

I have just bought a new 50d as Canon has stopped production & a new model is around the corner. I did't want a camera with video in it & as the 550d has video ,I'm sure the replacement will have video as well.

They have been saying for a few weeks Canon Aust was out of stock of the 50D and not getting anymore in. A lot of shops are selling off their remaining stock. I decided to grab one before they went and am extremely happy with it.

I was checking out prices on the net for a couple of weeks & last week I looked at DCW site & the 50d was gone ! I rang them & was told the they had sold out for good ,also JB hi fi ,Spectrum Camera House & a few others told me the same thing.
I got the 50d from Camera House in Parramatta,[ $999] they had bought 60 of them a few months ago & I think they had 2 left after I bought mine.
Bearteggie the 50 d is greeaaat ,I had a 400d b4 & it is heaps better .

Funnily enough thats where I purchased my 50D the other week too, a few HN shops around here had the odd 1 or 2 but the prices were a tad high. $1750 for body and a nifty fifty at one.

The 50D is certainly great for action. I upgraded from 300D - 30D - 40D, then last year to 50D. I shoot a lot of working sheepdogs using a 70-200 f2.5 L and 400 f2.8 L, and the 5 frames/sec. with excellent low noise at high ISO. I've also elected not to buy IS lenses, putting my cash into the glass, and using a silicon damped head on my Manfrotto tripod for following the action.

The 60D is coming. Photokina (the world's largest photographic expo) starts in less than a month. Canon usually like to use it to announce something...

The guy @ DCW told me they were going to a Canon night at the end of August & he was guessing they would make an anouncement about the 60 d then .

Just got my 50D on Saturday for my Bday present....woohoo....Lens is coming on Wednesday. can't wait.

.Lucky me, I bought a new 50D at Digital Photographics North Sydney on the 26 July for $950. So much easier to use than the 450D, I just hope the photographs turn out as well. At the time of my purchase they had quite a few in stock .

Yeah my 50d had a 3 year Canon warranty as well , with $1 change from 1k !

Bought one a couple of months ago in Townsville ..... just under the $1000 mark including a 4gb Sandisc card.
Happy with it ???? You bet I am.

60D is out... but probably take at least 4-5 months before its on the shelves.

Bought the 2nd last one from Teds in Brissy a couple weeks ago - moved up from a 400D. Man I love the 50D and to be honest, it is a whole new learning curve.

I got my 50D today from Harvey Norman Newcastle for $1700 with the 18-200IS lens. I have only taken a couple of pics so far but it is a big difference to my 350D. I have a steep learning curve ahead.

I don't see the 60D as a HUGE improvement over the 50D at all. Actually it looks like a step back.



Makes the people that got the cheap 50D's seem like they got an AWESOME bargain IMO.

I think I might buy a 50D this weekend. The 60D isn't inspiring me much and I want to upgrade my 40D (after selling it). I think I am addicted to something
