The 85 looks absolutely delightful but I can't afford the "old" model so now that Nikon have released their update I reckon Sigma will FINALLY get around to putting a price on their version that was initially going to be available 3 months ago.

Note that in addition to these lenses they have released a replacement entry level with a 14.1 MP sensor...which means we have an entry level with more MP that all the other models in the range sans the D3X lol.

And they also released a new DX lens the 55-300.

Maybe they are building up the lens set so they can ditch the screw drive AFS from all the camera models like they have for the entry and lower level DX bodies? Seems silly not to put VR in it though.

The speculation that I have read on the non appearance of VR in that particular lens is that slow shutter speeds + wide apertures and the fact that VR requires an amount of "float" in the optical elements = possible destruction of the famed 85mm bokeh.

If they were to make that lens with VR they would be adding one good feature to kill another.

    sounds reasonable.

still it will be interesting to see the optical improvment of the new version over the old. I dont think based on the 50 1.4 that putting af-s on a short prime set the world on fire re af speed

An updated 135/2 would have been nice. Not that theres anything wrong with mine, just I never use the DC feature and it could possibly render even better with ED elements, nano coating etc. Who knows - that is possibly another one they could potentially stuff up, given its very unique rendering characteristics - I might just be holding onto a collectable one day hehe

If there's not much improvement in the new 85, hopefully it will push donw the price of the D version, which is already around the ~ $1200 at your usual friendly HK ebay stores

The 24-120 VR would make a great travel/walkaround/limited space kit on a D700. I've been thinking for quite some time there is a big hole in that focal range in the Nikon lineup. Now, hopefully it's as good as the Canon 24-105.

And Nikon Australia wonder why people think they are backward.

A publicly available advertisement from http://www.nikon.com.au/productitem....381-25212782d6 saved as screen print a minute or 3 ago.

According to the Aussie mob it HAS vr.

    $1k for the 85mm f1.4. R they reliable?
Wow.. At that sort of price it's difficult not to choose it over the new one which'll likely cost twice that in Australia. And if the Sigma splits the two, it's really gonna be a hard decision.

that price can't be right, that's way under the US prices - maybe dirtcheap is trying to get publicity?

Swifty, if you are referring to the Sigma, they haven't even hit the market yet. Sigma don't even have a RRP on their own website and the only prices on the net seem to put them ( speculatively ) at around the 1100 mark. Nobody has even so much as reviewed one (that I know of) but I am waiting to see what they stack up like when they are released.
