Do You Still Love Your 20D?

Th EOS 20D has been one of my favourite cameras since its release in 2005.. I shoot mainly with my 50D but use the 20D as a backup.. It's image quality still rocks even by today's standards..

I had one for a couple of years, I only sold it to fund a 1DMkIIN body. It produced very fine images and with a really good lens (like the one you've used) it as good as anything more modern, I think.

Do I still love my 20D?

Do I still put my trousers on one leg at a time? Do I still want to see a Princess Parrot one day? Do I still hate Photoshop? Do I still like toast with honey and Vegemite? Do I still have a passion for the wide arid inland plains? Do I still drink tea? Do I ....

20D and 10-17 Tokina fish; 20D and 100-400; 20D and Canon 10-22, all taken in the last few months. It's good with any lens, and still produces the best all-round pictures of any camera I own bar the Mark III.

What do I miss when I use the 20D?

• Custom user modes - on the 40D and the 50D and even the 7D, to switch from hand-held to tripod, you turn one knob. Set it to USER 2 and that's it: 100i, mirror lock-up, 10 second delay, f/11, everything you want to take a landscape with a tripod. On the 20D, you have to set all that stuff by hand. Tedious.
• No self-cleaning sensor, so you have to be totally paranoid about changing lenses.
• Nothing else especially worth mentioning.

Not bad for a camera that old. Image quality is still as good as anything around. Handling is still excellent - in some respects better than the latest models. I have owned 8 SDLRs, and the 20D was the first of them. One by one, the others get moved on to other owners. But the 20D, it just goes on and on and on forever.

The Canon 20D was my first DSLR. I took a lot of good photos (IMVHO) with it. I seem to recall that body only it cost me over $2000 new.

A couple of years ago, after the Clipsal 500 during which I had been changing lens in less than ideal conditions, I noticed some dirt spots in my photos. I took it into ***** for a service, and my mate that used to work there offered me a 40D at a price I could not resist. I combined this with a 24-105 L lens, and that is my main camera now.

However, the 20D is still my back up camera and I reckon is still an excellent unit. I had intended to sell it, but the money offered for them was just laughable.

was my first dslr, have yet to get my second one, it will walk with me till it or i pass on, but i do wish it had a 5dmk11 to play with, poor lonely thing

When I worked for a newspaper, I had an issued 1D MkII and a 20D with grip for a backup.. Having a camera in your hands for 4-5 hours a day can be hard work so the 20D became my workhorse..

I mainly shoot with my 50D.. The analogy I have is the 50D is like wearing a tux,, you look and feel smart.. But the 20D is like wearing a ten year old pair of Levis.. I can pick up my 20D and instantly feel at home and comfortable with it..
