    K-7 D-BG4 Battery Grip - 3rd party

    I got myself a 3rd party grip for my K-7 (D-BG4)

    FYI: http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/p...tml#post850074

There are two versions of the 3rd party grips.
Type 1. A plastic lug version different from the genuine
Type 2. A metal lug version that is nearly 100% the same as the genuine

I got the type 2. Just posting this to let AP Pentaxians know the difference.
Mine cost AU$68 delivered via eBay (Hong Kong) !

Not sealed. But that's no big deal to me. YMMV. $400 for the genuine is a lot to pay for a few bits of rubber

Kym, would be nice to see what you think of the grip after a little bit of use. I have been looking to get one but not prepared to pay the Pentax price.

You can borrow it for a day, seeing as you live nearby

    Hi Kym

I'm looking at the Travor grip for my K20D, $50 odd compared to $200 odd for the original, if you can find one.

Was wondering if you have a 3rd party grip on your K20D, and if so, how do you find it.

    Cheers

I have the "type 2" brip as well. I can honestly say that this is more than adequate for every day use.

I don't need weather sealing as none of my lenses are WR lenses anyway.

$50 vs $400, wonder which one everyone is going to buy.

Sure the buttons don't have the same feel but they certainly don't feel like they are going to fail any time soon.

I love the way my K-7 feels now and being able to use both batteries means I can take about 1500 pictures before recharging.

I have just ordered one from DealExtreme for $55. I use the original on my K7 but this one will be modified to take a two cell LiPo battery (2500mA). Once it arrives and I butcher it, I'll post the results.

    Regards

I just got mine, gotta ask, if you have the Li Ion battery in the grip only, and not the body, then should it turn on? cuz it doesn't.

I was wanting to just use 1 battery, in the grip, and never having the grip off.

I always use 2 batteries - no idea - the body on/off is master - you cannot turn on using grip only

    yes, I have both on.
does it use your batteries in order, or half-half? cuz you want it so when one runs out you charge 1 and keep using the 2nd.

I'm also 3rd party so I want to be sure the grip is working
