What about a flash? E.g. SB-600 $296 at DWI. You would have money left over for remote-triggers, stand, brolly, etc. Not much good for landscapes admittedly but should be good for shooting the kids...

Ok decision made - thanks you all for your help. I have ordered the Tammy 90 macro, and a SB 600 flash - over budget, but that's what credit cards are for
Next going to look at a filter system for my next big purchase - so will be asking questions about that later!
Ordered lens and flash from DWI - fingers crossed it doen't take too long.
