    Shanghai GP3 120 film?

    Hello,

I have been looking for some cheap 120 b&w film to use in my recently acquired Bronica S2A while I learn about using the camera, and also to practice my developing with.

Although I would prefer to use Tri-X 400 (that is what I am currently using in 35mm) I need something cheap to start with.

Has any one used this film before? - link here

Is there anything else anyone could recommend as a cheap 120 film?

    Thanks in advance,

    Matt

At $2.70 per roll, I am looking at getting some just to test light seals and mechanical workings on my new camera.
I have read about the curling too - although some people are affected, and others aren't? reading between the lines, it may have something to with the finishing of the developing

There is not much curl to this film.. at least since Ive started using it and the way I process it.

Home processed 400H in 120 in Tetenal C-41 has a -lot- more curl.

Anyway, this is beautiful stuff, I've pushed it successfully to 800.

I've pushed it to 3200 "successfully" (large tonal range still!!) but there were the dreaded backing paper marks (only roll I've ever gotten it on with.. odd).

Both of these pushes in Rodinal, I find Rodinal excellent for both pushing and fine grain contrary to popular internet opnion who've never actually tried it

I've seen it compared colloquilly (sp?) to FP4+ and recently Plus-X

Anyway, here is some from my RB67.

I love FP4+, GP3 and FP4+ are my favourites, if you like PX or FP4+ you'll like GP3.

Fantastic image - thanks for the info.
I brought 10 rolls last night, and plan on processing it in D76 1+1 - I will post the results once processed.
    Cheers!

I was wondering about the quality of Shanghai film, but after seeing the above... not anymore! Can't wait to try it. I also am a fan of highly diluted Rodinal. I have a Bronica S2A and a Hasselblad 500 cm (first of the cm's). Bit I am tempted to try in a number of my old German bellows rangefinders with their superb lenses. Some are 6 x 4.5, 6 x 6 and 6 x 9. I've always had great results from these using slow (25 - 50 asa) film and Rodinal.

Good to see another Bronica user on the forum! I would be interested to see some photos from this camera.

Just thought I would update this thread.
I finally received the 10 rolls last night, and loaded it straight into the Bronica - no dramas went in fine.
Took some photos today, yep camera seemed to work o.k. - man I love looking through the viewfinder - even the wife commented how '3D' it looked

I developed the roll tonight using D76 1+1 for 13 minutes at 20deg, and apart from the shot I took of the sky when I accidentally pressed the shutter just after winding it on, they all look pretty good!

All I need to do now is borrow a semi decent scanner, or get my darkroom up and running!
