    See here: http://www.ausphotography.net.au/for...ad.php?t=59132

It's in the Canon forum, but should be equally useful with any other brand. Lots of good info there.

Only way is with a remote, otherwise you are limited to a maximum of 30 seconds using the shutter button on the camera itself.

Get yourself a cable release or remote. They're not that expensive, and it will prevent any type of camera shake in use.

I would rather spend a few bucks and not have to worry about keeping my finger on the button whilst the shutter is open .. especially if you are doing 3-4 minute exposures.

    Phil

You can also get intervalometers.... which can be programmed to take a series of bulb images at programmed intervals

A remote will also be useful for more than just bulb mode, handy for any long exposure on a tripod so you don't bump the camera when shooting

Using blu-tak to hold down the shutter button works a treat.
I've used it for 4 and 5 minute exposures of stars

How do you prevent camera shake while sticking the blue tack on?

I would have to agree with a remote. Not that much to buy and worth it very much.
