Flowery boy - 1st time with GIMP

This was was first effort with using layers in GIMP. It was a bit of a drawn out process for me. I was following the tutorial and didn't completely understand the process but got the look I was after.

This is my son btw which it why it was so fun to do.
    Critique appreciatd.

Good try! Maybe try cropping the image tighter to remove some of the background. Not sure if he is laughing or just being 'a boy'.

The Pink really pops - is he wearing a girls t-shirt as well Id maybe also colorize the words Rodeo Girl on his shirt? Good work - im slowly teaching myself to wrap my head around GIMP as well - dont want to spring for Photoshop until i can use it.

    Hello:

I am also learning the GIMP. The colour flower looks natural over the black and white picture. I think you understand how to do it now to other pictures, don’t you?
    Regards.
