Hi All,

At the moment I'm using a Massa CP filter (77mm), got this for $8 (I think). I'm wondering whether or not it will do my photos any help if I swapped it to a bigger brand such as HOYA or B+W. I know in photographer is mostly a case of "you get what you pay for" .. but I wanted to know of other people's opinions first.

I use Marumi CPL filters and i've been told they're cheap and cr&p and i should spent $100s on good ones. I earn money from photography and i'm yet to hear a client say, "that picture would have been better if you had used a $300 B&W CPL filter"....

A company making $8 filters may have poor quality control/image quality, but that said a quick search for Massa indicates they're a new player on the market and they may be coming in at a low price to get their foot in the door...who knows?

I'm assuming you know what a CPL does and if you can't see anything optically wrong with your shots, then my bet is that an expensive CPL probably isn't going to make a huge difference.

better equipment doesn't always equate to better pictures.

I can't tell the diffence between kenko and hoya despite the price gap - haven't tried the ultra cheap ones but you certainly can notice the difference even in outdoor wedding photos when post processing them from RAW.

Canon is a big name brand, and their CPL is pretty darn pricey too. Ibougjt a Hoya instead

Canon CPL will be worse than Hoya/Kenko.'
Hoya/Kenko merged, so their pro1 series are identical. The rest aren't.

an $8 CPL may not be a true CPL, you can test viewing an LCD and seeing if you can get pure black
but a Hoya 77mm costs $100, so well..

I use a Moose's filter, paid about $70 and been more than happy with it.
