    The new Sigma 8-16mm

    Hi all,

I've just got myself a new Sigma 8-16mm from HK for $720.

Very impressed with it so far, the focussing is very fast thanks to the HSM, the only thing I can fault it on is that it slightly under exposes, but I shoot in RAW, so no issues really.

Solidly built, and contrary to some of the reviews I've read, it does come with a slip over threaded mount for filters & the lens cap.

I'm constantly adding to this set if you want to see some shots:

    $720, huh?

    sounds good to me.

about the underexposure; out of curiosity, which metering mode are you using?

What size is the 'filter threads' on the slip on mount? I'd expect with such a wild FOV that any attempt to place a standard circular filter of any description would cause mechanical vignetting, at least at the very wide end(8-10mm).

the review results from this lens seem astonishing.. I think this is going to be my next (gear)purchase, even though I don't need it and am going to move to full frame in the not too distant future.

my only problem is that I have the necessary $720 locked away in a full frame warchest.. and depleting that account by $720 delays the inevitable move to full frame... but who cares.... this lens is going to be mine!

took a while for the flickr images to load, but they're up now. do you have any higher res images taken with the lens?

here is the review of what Arthur is talking about

    http://www.photozone.de/canon-eos/51...56apsc?start=1

it looks exactly like its full frame brother the Sigma 12-24, and performs like it too

one of the gems of Sigma that not many know about, punching far above its weight for IQ and sharpness, and beats the Canon 17-40 L easily

+1 Jackie ... the 12-24 is next on my list, unless I succumb the the goodness (and $$) of the CZ 16-35.
