problem with Microsoft office on my iMac

hey guys,

a couple of months ago i installed microsoft office 2001 on my new iMac. I need this stuff for my university work.

Yesterday i tried to open one of my excel docs and it started to open but then came up with a box saying "excel quit unexpectedly" it then gave me the option to reopen it and i did and the same thing happened.

Now when i try to open my word documents it says the same thing.

so i moved microsoft office to the trash bin. I then tried to reinstall the disk. It started to install but then came up with the message saying "the finder can't complete the operation because some data in microsoft excel can't be read or written. (Error code - 36)"

Could somebody please help me with this. I have two huge assignments due next week and am really starting to stress
