How do the af-d wide primes compare?

Hi there,

I'm currently looking at updating my kit with some more 'pro' quality glass in the 24-70mm range. I would LOVE a 24/28-70 but don't think my current budget would allow it for a while to come. Also, I like the idea of shooting with primes.

I'm just wondering how the 24/2.8, 28/2.8, 35/2 compare to the 50/1.8 when it comes to sharpness (both wide open and in general) and contrast. I've read plenty of reviews both good and bad but am just trying to guage how they compare to a lens that I know the performance of.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 20 f2.8 and it's sharp as a tack. I've used a 35 f/2 and I wasn't as impressed

Paul,

The 24-70 is an excellent lens.
A 24 tilt shift is some of nikons best glass and great for landscape.

I recently acquired a zeiss 22mm to fit the nikon and although it is manual focus that doesn't represent a problem with wide angle.

It has excellent resolving power and exceptional micro contrast and is getting rave reviews.

I have the 28mm f/2.8D It has its flaws, and certaintly does not match the 24-70mm moter speed, and quietness. However The bokeh is nice, but its not creamy/dreamy like the 85mm f/1.4D at f/8 - f/16 it is wonderful and really shines. The 28mm is no doubt a good lens, and its optics are good enough for me. Although its nowhere near Zeiss optics.

However I find the flaws it has gives a vintage look to it.
