Talking Got Me A Sigma 150-500

Well I went out today to buy a 120-400 as I rang around and got a good price from CH in Parramatta. So in I go, have a wander around and a look at the lens cabinets but no one wants to talk so I go upstairs to Paxtons.

The sales guy in there was great. Took out the 120-400 and let me get a feel for it and then pulls out the 150-500. Long story short I buy the 150-500 but he says to me if I'm not happy with it in a week or so bring it back and have a go at the 120-400.

Can't ask for for than that with great service to boot .

It's dark out side so I thought I'd have a go in my poorly lit music room and I'm looking forward to an afternoon off work on Sunday and I hopefully will be able to get it into the footy.

EXIF intact but these were taken at ISO 3200.

These are straight from camera, converted and resized in DPP. No PP at all.

I need to get home before dark and see how it goes in better light.

It will be interesting to see how well it focuses on full zoom with objects that are of similar colour/texture, or fast moving, i.e. BIF or wildlife shots.

i have one of these but have never shot wide open like this. thats actually quite sharp for wide open... for your own reference they are sharpest at f8-f10.

they are not a very fast lens at all and can hunt in low light, but still very good IMO.

I was shopping around for the latest OS version of the Sigma 50-500, but could only find the old 'non OS' model so decided to try for the 150-500.
I went to a few places in Perth Metro area and ended up at Camera land [a Camera House] in Leederville. The young fella there was really helpfull and after using one of the store bodies with the lens attached I was sold.
The price was right the service great and so far whilst doing the learning thing, I'm happy as Larry.
The lens is solidly built and works well with both my D70 & D300s.
So far I have only used it hand held in bright day light, but thats when most of my subjects are up n about.

I have posted these in another thread as well, but incase you didnt see them, here is an example of what the lens can do.
Handheld on a windy rooftop so please dont be too critical about the quality.
