How long does it normally take for the new gear to become available?
Hey all,
I've got myself an 8-16mm, been out taking a bunch of shots with it in the mornings, will be taking more this weekend..

it seems the 8-16 has been available for a few months now.. but as for the others!!
85/1.4 and 70-200/2.8 with OS would sell like hotcakes if they prove themselves to be any good... as good as the 8-16 is
ps. as I've been reading it, the 8-16 appears to be the best UWA for APS-C currently on the market. Only problem is, according to Photzone, build quality. As it's such an extreme lens design, and it's still quite new there'd be manufacturing issues to be weary of.. so best purchased form a reputable source(with good warranty service).
The new 70-200 was priced at US$1699 at Amazon. (think it was Amazon anyway)
Pentax K20D & Grip, Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5 DC Macro, Sigma APO 70-200 f2.8 EX DG HSM II, Metz Mecablitz 48 AF-1 flash, LowePro Flipside 300 backpack, Photoshop CS 5, Lightroom 3, Manfrotto Monopod & 498 RC2 Ball Head, GoldPhoto "Tracker" Tripod, Hoya CPL and UV filters, Yongnuo RF602 flash triggers.
8-16 sounds good, but would like it as a faster lens like 1.4 or 2.8... Now that would be nice... Well for my application. the 85 f1.4 sounds good also.
I wonder if a 40-70mm would become available in the future Need something to fill the gap between the 17-40mm and 70-200mm
I have older versions of the 70-200 and 50-500. Both are lovely lenses
I just checked Sigma's site for the RRP of the 70-200/2.8 OS lens and it's more than the Nikon VRII version!
See HERE for Sigma's recommended pricing.
Of course RRP and street price has always been at vastly different levels, but that goes for just about any product.. depending on demand.
I was expecting this particular lens to come in at possibly $500 more than the older non OS version, which has a RRP of $1200!
(The Nikon VRII comes in at the Nikon USA site at $2399.95)
I highly doubt that anyone will choose the Sigma over the supremely built Nikon VRII, nor the just as well built Canon version.. which basically leaves Sony and Pentax(where Sony at least has their own 70-200/2.8 option(not sure if Pentax does).. and they both have in camera stabilisation.
unless it's dramatically better than either the recent Nikon or Canon versions, I think Sigma have shot themselves in the foot with this lens!
Looks like street price will be a bit more realistic than their recommended retail.
