Need help with monitor decision::::

My husband and I have different ideas as to which new monitor to purchase.
The choice is down to the Dell 2209 (22" IPS panel that I want) and the 24" BenQ V2400eco LED monitor (hubby wants this one)....Both are ballpark same price.

My non-photographer visually challenged husband (he knows I'm writing this ) believes that bigger is better (24" vs 22") and the latest technology (LED is this case) is best. I think size doesn't matter as much as it will eventually be part of a dual monitor set up.

I want the Dell as it is the only IPS panel to be had at this pricepoint and is brilliant for photo editing. I am also concerned about the reflectiveness of the LED panels. As most of my images are processed for print, I don't really see that the high contrast ratios are of much benefit. I've looked at LED panels instore and can't see what all the fuss is about. Am I missing something here?

The computer is used 90% of the time for photo-editing and 10% for internet browsing.
This is something we haven't been able to reach agreement on so are wanting opinions from you guys.

I think you should come to a compromise and buy both

Looking at both, i'd probably got the 22" also.

I have a BenQ monitor diff model, it calibrates quite well with the Spyder and bang for buck they are pretty good.

Il be purchasing the 2209 soon, nice IPS panel for that price you can't go wrong. Haven't had a chance to check out LED monitors.

My current monitor is a BenQ...it is a nasty piece of carp..varies in constrast and brightness from top to bottom of the screen. It is also the second ...the first had to be returned within months as it developed large glowing spots. I'm not kindly disposed towards BenQ at all.

I have the Dell 2209WA and love it. The non-reflective screen is brilliant for photo processing. Go the Dell for the win!!!

96 per cent Adobe RGB coverage and 100 per cent sRGB. Each monitor ships with a colour calibration factory report, which claims pre-tuned AdobeRGB and sRGB with an average Delta E of less than 5, attempting to lower the chance of colour inconsistency on screen.

I have this as my standard monitor with a 30 being the editing and video monitor. Lots of issues with this model, it is the same panel as the recent HP of same specs that has green/pink colour casts through the screen.

Is meant to come calibrated, what a croc, mine was way out from the box. Has the typical Dell sear your retina brighntess that is bright enough to light a dark street at night. It is good once calibrated as long as you don't get one with the hues of pink or green. I sent 2 of them back the day after they arrived for this problem, took Dell 3 new replacement attempts before I got a good one. One warning, if you send it back be aware Dell will often try to send you a used/refurb unit to replace it, obviously one that someone else already returned previously. Demand new and sealed and they will comply or just tell them you want your dough back.

Interesting, mine looked pinkish with the normal profile, once I selected a suitable colour profile (srgb or adobe), the image was spot on, no trace of colour cast. What I wasn't expecting was a built in SD card reader, USB hub and 90 degree swivel capability.

The Dell 2209WA won out! My wonderful hubby capitulated and I am now the proud owner of a decent monitor. I was rather impressed with Dell...managed to get the monitor for $305 and it delivered in only two days. All set up and looking good so far.

For monitors imo big is better
Since my upgrade to the 27inch Mac, all my photos look more stunning...enjoy the upgrade

How did you get the monitor for $305? I saw it on the dell website for $407 or something like that?

There was a special running that brought the price down to $359. I had been checking it out on the whirlpool forum anyway and saw that some people had managed to pick it up for $310, so when I made the order I mentioned the $310 price to the sales guy....he then checked his site and said he could do it for $305!! ...all I did was ask. This was through the Dell kiosk at Carindale in Brisbane.

I'm watching one of these Dells on eBay at present but it's a refurbished unit being sold by a third party. 'Refurbished' puts doubt in my mind after reading Wayne's post above. Ruth, you wouldn't happen to have a phone number for the Dell kiosk at Carindale would you?

Thanks for the reccomendation Ruth. Just spoke to Tom at the Carindale kiosk and I got the Dell 2408wfp for $509 delivered. Not bad considering it wan running at >$1000 last year.!

I have the u2410 at home and a Samsung 2233 at work. The guy next to me has a Dell 24inch LED monitor.

The feedback is definitely that the Dell LED 24 inch is much duller than the Samsung. The Samsung is a bit brighter and more contrasty than my u2410 at home.
