    Red face Photo Editing

I'm not sure if I am in the correct discussion area here - apologies if I'm not.
If anyone is able to help me with tips on how to remove a very large unwanted shadow on a photo I would be very appreciative. I use photoshop but unfortunatley do not know how to use it well enough (I need to do a course!) I have tried my best but only get very average outcomes.
Thanks to anyone who would be able to help!

It would be a lot easier to help if you were able to post an example of the actual photo you need assistance with.

That photo is very dark, and any attempt to recover it will look 'recovered', the only way to do this well would be to retake the photo.

Okay thanks for the advice - my 12 year old took this and it's a very rare photo that I actually like (minus the shadow of course) oh well - next time maybe

Yeah I'm afraid ricks right just a little too dark ....but I like a challenge, so if its alright, I had a play for a few minutes and heres the result.
EDIT opps here what I did
Copy layer> change blending mode to screen> layers> hide all.
Paint with a soft white brush on the dark areas to make them lighter.
Duplicate this layer( 3 times I think)
Turn off backgound layer and merge visible layers
    Flatten image> duplicate layer > noise reduction 3 times>flatten
    Hope this helps a little
